Project Valor: Service dog companion program

Honoring America’s Veterans (HAV) is proud to support a truly life-changing initiative in partnership with Patriot Dog Training Behavioral Academy and the Phoenix Legacy Foundation. This powerful collaboration is part of the Paws and Play program, spearheaded by the Phoenix Legacy Foundation, and is designed to bring healing, hope, and renewed purpose to our nation’s veterans.

Project Valor – Service Dog Companion Program, is an extraordinary opportunity for one veteran to receive a highly trained service dog at no cost. What makes Project Valor unique is its deeply personal matching process, where the dog chooses the veteran. As any dog lover knows, dogs often have an instinctive way of selecting their person. This intentional bonding approach ensures a more authentic connection, fostering trust, emotional stability, and long-term success for both the veteran and the service companion.

Leading the training component is veteran business owner Jamie Martinez, a former Army Medic and experienced service dog handler. Through his company, Patriot Dog Training and Behavioral Academy LLC, Jamie brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to the project. His firsthand knowledge of military service and the challenges many veterans face allows him to approach each pairing with compassion, discipline, and a mission-driven mindset. Together, this partnership represents more than a program — it is a pathway to healing, independence, and renewed strength for the veterans we are honored to serve. APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.
