The self-sacrifice of our nation’s veterans resonates deeply with Americans, reminding us of the freedoms we cherish daily. Honoring those who support veterans can be just as moving. At its 2024 year-end awards ceremony, the nonprofit Honoring America’s Veterans (HAV) recognized three outstanding civilians for their exceptional contributions.
Founded to create events that honor and celebrate veterans, HAV organizes the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade and other recognition ceremonies. This year’s awardees showcased extraordinary dedication to the cause.
Terri Ouellette: A Legacy of Advocacy
Terri Ouellette, host of ABC 15’s Sonoran Living, is no stranger to service and sacrifice. As the mother of a U.S. Army combat veteran who served during the Global War on Terror, she has long been a passionate advocate for veteran nonprofits. When invited to join HAV’s Veterans Advisory Council, Ouellette embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and vision.
Her efforts led to a transformative partnership between HAV and Spencers TV & Appliance. Together, they orchestrated a Veterans Day sale, with 100% of the profits donated to HAV. The community rallied behind the cause, waiting until November 11 to make their purchases. The result was monumental: Spencers President Clifton Orlandi presented a donation check of more than $61,000—the largest single donation in HAV’s history.
In recognition of her impact, HAV honored Terri with its most prestigious award, the Salute to Patriots. This award pays tribute to the organization’s origins, recognizing leaders who founded the Veterans Day Parade in 1997, including VA Medical Center Director John Fears, Councilman Craig Tribken, and City of Phoenix Special Events Director Irene Stillwell.
Clifton Orlandi: A Leader Committed to Service
Clifton Orlandi, President of Spencers TV & Appliance, was also celebrated with a Distinguished Service Award. Beyond facilitating the record-breaking donation, Spencers demonstrates an enduring commitment to veterans, who comprise more than 25% of the company’s workforce.
Terra Toc: Excellence in Logistics
The third honoree, American Express project manager Terra Toc, was recognized with the Soaring Over Staging Award. As HAV’s Logistics Chair, Terra brought exceptional organizational skills to the 2024 Phoenix Veterans Day Parade.
Her contributions included coordinating the delivery and setup of critical items like tents, chairs, decorations, signage, and hydration stations along the parade route. She oversaw volunteer support operations, arranged portable restrooms, and ensured efficient waste management. Toc’s upbeat attitude and meticulous planning ensured the event’s smooth execution, prioritizing safety and functionality at every step.
These three honorees exemplify the spirit of service, making a lasting impact on HAV’s mission to honor and support veterans. Learn more about their work and HAV’s initiatives at honoringamericasveterans.org.
