The Army National Guard Saxophone Quartet will join us tomorrow for our Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day event on Dec. 6.
Musicians have been a part of the military for generations. For instance, drummers have been used to keep time and give commands.
As part of the U.S. Army, these soldiers serve not only to protect our country, but also to boost morale through their music.
Army National Guard bands like the Saxophone Quartet provide part-time musical support across 48 of the 50 states. Each month, these soldiers dedicate one weekend to rehearsals. Two weeks per year are dedicated to a concert tour.
There are more than 80 Army Bands with a variety of instruments beyond the saxophones of this quartet. Benefits of joining the Army as a musician include musical variety, travel opportunities and financial stability.
U.S. Army Bands members receive good pay (starting salary of E-4 pay grade), health care, 30 days of paid vacation annually and student loan repayment (up to $65,000) for select instruments.
